What is heat recovery ventilation?
Heat recovery ventilation systems, also known as MVHR or true HRV, are designed to bring fresh air into your home at a comfortable temperature. These systems recover heat or cooling energy from extracted room air as the heat recovery core transfers the heat from the outgoing air to the incoming air, warming or cooling incoming air and effectively helping to maintain the temperature inside your home.
In winter, it is much more important that ventilation systems not only perform their basic function of extracting moist, stale air, but do so in a way that complements the costly efforts made to warm your home. In summer, many systems include a built-in bypass that brings in cooler outside air, helping your home stay comfortable without using extra energy.
Heat Recovery Systems
The bread and butter of our heat recovery range, SmartVent has two core heat recovery systems: the Balance, and Econiq.
Both of these systems are highly automated centralised systems which are also suitable for wet room extraction (like in kitchens, bathrooms, and laundries). Ideal for installation in high performance homes, these systems are designed for homeowners wanting the best outcomes for their property.
Both also include a built-in core bypass, so you can take advantage of free cooling over Summer.
Energy Recovery Systems
An alternative to our heat recovery systems. The SmartVent Synergy 3 is an energy recovery system which also features balanced air movement (equal air supply and extraction), but is unable to extract air from wet rooms.
This is because the system transfers a small amount of moisture between the incoming and outgoing air, making it especially beneficial when you live in a particularly dry or humidity controlled environment, while still being highly effective at improving indoor air quality. Energy recovery systems have superior energy efficiency and airflow when compared to a positive pressure system.
Decentralised Heat Recovery
Ideal for ventilating properties with limited ceiling space, our decentralised heat recovery systems can be installed directly through external walls. These systems are typically comprised of a single or several units working individually or as a network.
Our SmartVent Fresh and Tempra are highly modular and scaleable systems, capable of ventilating single rooms, or expanding (with additional fans) to ventilate an entire home. They offer more control over individual spaces and don’t suffer heat losses from ducting.
